Can I lose weight by swapping coffee for tea? Study revealed…

Are you trying to lose weight?

You’re not alone…

Many of us have been leading more sedentary lifestyles and eating a little too much comfort food.

Or, maybe, you’ve been making an effort to get fitter?

But, there are areas you wish would tone up more.

Whether you’ve packed on some extra weight, or have lost it, there’s one stubborn area which clings to fat: the belly.

It’s one of the toughest spots to target.

Plus, one of the most dangerous areas to carry weight.

If your waist measures 35 or more inches for women, or 40 inches or more for men, you’re in trouble.

While the subcutaneous fat around love handles, thighs, the bum and arms can be annoying – it’s pretty harmless.

But, fat in the tummy gathers around the abdominal organs.

It’s linked to heart disease cancer and dementia.

So, weight loss, through diet and exercise, is needed to lose that belly fat.

And, there’s one thing you can do to speed up the process.

But good news is you can make your tummy flatter just by swapping out your morning coffee.

Yes, you read it right, your morning caffeinated drink could make all the difference to belly fat.

If you’re trying to slim down and lose stubborn belly fat, green tea could be your new favourite beverage.

Research has found that green tea in particular may be helpful for supporting metabolism and weight management.

For example, in a study carried out with 35 obese men and women, it was found that those who drank four cups of green tea daily for two months lost significantly more weight than those who consumed a placebo.

Now, don’t worry if your coffee is the only thing that gets you up on a morning.

Green tea still has ability to help you lose that belly fat.

Each cup has about 30 to 50mg.

A single espresso has about 63mg.

So, you’re not totally without your fix.

In another trial on 10 men, it was found that when the men consumed green tea extract in the morning they had a four percent higher energy expenditure over 24 hours (i.e. they burned four percent more calories) than when consuming a placebo.

When the men drank just caffeine, i.e. in a form not from the green tea, it didn’t have the same effect.

Caffeine alone doesn’t boost weight loss.

So, there is more at play in this delicious tea than first thought.

As a bonus, if you regularly drink lattes and cappuccinos, swapping for green tea will drastically cut your morning calories.

An average latte with full fat milk has about 168 calories.

While a cappuccino has 165 calories.

Black coffee is much better and only contains around 4 calories a cup.

But, you don’t get the weight loss boosting benefits of green tea.

If you want the best of both worlds, try a cup of matcha tea.

This powdered green tea has all the benefits of other green teas but more caffeine.
